Remember the story of the apple shot off of a boys head? Imagine having to do that with your own son. A true story … it happened in 1307. William Tell (an expert crossbowman) was forced to perform this act on his son and…he succeeded. I wonder how that feeling compares to Buck Fever?
In the late 1800’s, until 1922, archery was in the Olympics. Then was removed from them until 1972. In 1937, the first bow sights were used in NAA competition. However, the guy with the sights still did not get first place, but second. 1939 was the year that James Easton first experimented with aluminum arrows. In 1951 we saw the first plastic vanes (plastiflech) replacing feathers. 1953 was the first year for the “Bear” recurve bow in the market place. Then, in 1961 Hoyt Archery Co. introduced the first torque stabilizers.
The Carbon arrow is developed by Easton in 1983. Matt McPherson formed in 1992, Matthews Archery Company. They manufactured compound bows with ONE cam technology. In 2003 the Win & Win Company Archery company of Soul, Korea released a composite carbon and aluminum recurve bow riser. They also released composite titanium and carbon recurve bow limbs. Whew…there sure has been a lot of transformation of the bow over the years, especially in the last 75 years. Avid hunters…did you notice some familiar names in the history above?
